Who is This For?
We Designed These Resources For:
- Teachers of science communication and science writing who might want to incorporate attention to metaphor into their courses
- Scientists and science-communicators at any career stage who are interested in thinking about the metaphors that they use in their work
- Anyone who wants to learn more about why language in science matters to how science gets done and to connections between science and the rest of society
Our examples primarily come from molecular biology because that’s our background and research focus. The same general principles apply across STEM fields (yes; even including math!), though individual disciplines have developed different norms around, for example, specific metaphors that are considered standard or surprising.
